The story itself was good. The title for this book is all wrong. It lead me to believe that the two would be lovers, As her ex husband was now also her boss. Some of that is true, but not the way the title leads you on. Her ex took over the company, and became her boss. She never wanted to see him again, so she turned in her notice. She did however have to work the rest of her contract. During that time, they were far from lovers.Kate and Sean married and were in love. Sean broke Kate's heart when he asked her for a divorce. He told her he was having a affair. In truth He wanted to set Kate free. He had just been told he was infertile. The two had dreamed of having a big family, and he knew how much having children meant to Kate.
The theme that carried out throughout the book frustrated me. Sean found out Kate had a 5 year old son named Ollie. He demanded to know who the father was. She told him that he was. He refused to believe that he was the father. For some readers I'm sure the suspense would make for a better story. For me, I was just annoyed. A simple DNA test would prove that he was either the father, or he wasn't. I just thought the issue dragged out too long.
I thought it was sweet how he took care of both Kate, and Ollie when Kate got sick with the flu. There were tender moments throughout the book that made my heart melt. five years may have passed by, but the two never stopped loving each other. Kate was a strong heroine throughout the book, and a good mom. In the end, I thought this was a good book. Just because we get frustrated with some parts of a book, does not make it a bad book.

I am not a big PJ fan and don't have that many of her books. I enjoy books that allow you to know the thoughts of both the H & H and I enjoyed the book from that stand point. Not a keeper for me but a good read.
This one didn't really light my fire. I never got emotionally invested in the the characters. It wasn't good, but not bad either. Penny Jordan can and has done much better.
I really love this story. Sometimes I felt like crying. I identified with both characters. He fell in love with his child since the beginning without believing it was his. He took care of her and her son from the start. He took advantage of the oportunity that life gave him to be with the woman he loved no matter the circumstances. I read the Blackmail Baby before and felt very dissapointed. But this one went straight to my heart. This is a must keep.
I thought this book was very good. The only thing that was annoying was how long he kept saying she had a kid with another man and that is was not his biologically even though he loved the little boy. I did like the ending, but she forgave so easily and fast. He wasted 5 years of their love because he thought he was doing what was best for her and she forgave him so quickly. Even after finding out the truth about his son, she still was like "that is the past". I would make him beg for forgiveness. I mean, you can clearly see the love between the 2 of them and I love how they were together before he got rich, but his decision to end their marriage was not something I could just sweep under the rug like she did. That is my opinion though. Both were faithful to each other the whole 5 years. She said she never had been with anyone and he tells her that he "may have divorced her but he did not replace her in his bed".
One of the things I loved about Penny Jordan is that she could conceive of men who could remain faithful to the woman they love through all kinds of adversity, for years at a time. Her heroes in most cases are men who are not ruled by their libido. This is such a refreshing change and makes her heroes that extra bit special.
This is the story of Sean and Kate who married when Kate was quite young and Sean was still a bit rough around the edges, having worked his way up from being a builder's labourer to owning his own company.
Then suddenly, five years ago, he ended the married saying he didn't want children and when Kate pushed for a reason, suggesting an affair, he agreed. Broken hearted she made a new life for herself and the son Sean didn't know he had and she was certain he didn't want.
Of course it wasn't so simple and when he takes over the company she works for, he finds out about little Oliver. He knows the child can't be his because tests showed him unable to have children. But as time goes on he finds he loves the boy and still has feelings for Kate.
Kate is confused by his reaction to Oliver, the fact that he refuses to believe Ollie is his child and his accusations that she must have found someone immediately after the breakup. At the same time, Ollie is devoted to Sean and Sean...Sean is acting like a father despite his protestations.
There is a lot of hurt and misunderstanding between these two but also a lot of passion. Oliver is a nice addition without being too cutesy. Loved the ending and the way things worked out for them.
